William Allen "Bill" Hollaar, age 71, passed away March 30, 2020 in Palos Heights, IL. Beloved son of Lois and the late William "Bud" Hollaar of Orland Park, IL. Dear brother of Vivian (the late Dave) Sytsma of Friendship, WI, Larry (Debbie) Hollaar of Monee, IL and Ken (Heather) Hollaar of Crestwood, IL. Also survived by 3 nieces, 6 nephews, 22 grand nieces and nephews, as well as 2 great-grand nieces. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William (Bud) Hollaar (2013), and his nephew, Timothy Sytsma (2014).

Bill was born December 7, 1948 to Bud and Lois (nee Haak) Hollaar in Hull, ND. The family moved from the farm in ND to the Chicago area in 1955 so Bill could attend the Elim Christian School in Palos Heights, IL. When Bill was 18, he completed his time at Elim and attended Garden School for the Handicapped in Burbank, IL. Later when Elim established its adult services and workshop, Bill returned to Elim and has attended faithfully until the present time.

Since moving to Chicago, Bill and his family have attended the Palos Heights Christian Reformed Church. Bill made a public profession of his faith while John Vander Lugt was pastor. More recently, Bill looked forward to the Thursday night meetings of the Friendship Club held at the church.

Bill enjoyed staying in touch with all his aunts and uncles from around the country. They often called him on the phone, sent him cards, or special gifts like a new baseball cap, or a jigsaw puzzle. He had quite a collection of both!

The Hollaar Family Reunions were a special time for Bill. A highlight was having his cousins join him in The Chicken Dance.

Bill's friendly ways and kind heart will be missed by everyone who knew him. But we will see him again in a glorified body on resurrection day!

Memorial Gifts can be mailed to:

Bill was a beautiful neighbour and friend, always happy to see you and just loved my dog Sophie. Initially, Bill
was a little worried about Sophie ...but Sophie decided he was the man for her, and every time she saw him
or heard his voice, her tail would start going 100 miles an hour. And he could not get away until he petted her
and made her day. I will miss his smiling face, and sense of humour.
Rest well my friend, Heaven has gained another Hero.

I can still hear Bill's laugh. He found so much joy in so many things that we never take the time to notice. I can vividly remember the last time you were all out here for a visit and we all went to our church together. It was communion Sunday and I sat beside Bill as we hummed the prelude songs together. He knew them all. Than I saw the communion table and asked Bill if he loved Jesus. And he said quickly, Oh yes. Have you taken communion in your church? Yes, he replied. Well then you can take it here too today. Then Lois whispered across to me - He takes it in our church too. He knew he loved Jesus and he knew he would go to heaven when his time here was done. Oh for the quick and easy knowledge that we can have about Jesus. I know he is in heaven with his Aunt Edith there to welcome him 'home'. I believe this is why she departed this earth at this time. Lois, know that Bill is good with Mom, they are both well and strong now and sitting in the presence of Jesus. Who could want any more for either of them. I wish I could be there with you but I can't. My love and prayers go with you tomorrow. I know my Mom's funeral was not a sad one, she needed to go home just as it was Bill's time to go. I can almost hear them talking and laughing. God bless you all.

Bill was a wonderful friend and God's love shone through his life in his smile and kind, gentle, tender-hearted ways. He genuinely cared for other people and faithfully shared prayer requests so that others would join him in praying for his family and friends. We are so thankful that he is well now and with his dear Lord and Saviour. He will be missed by our family and countless others, especially all of our friends at Friendship Club on Thursday nights. We count it a privilege to have known Bill and his Mom, Lois for many years. Dear Lois, we are praying daily (and often) for you and all of your family. God loves you so very much and will carry you through this most difficult time. May His everlasting love and His precious Word comfort your hearts in a very special way. Jeremiah 31:3 and Isaiah 41:10. With lots of love, Warren, Pam, Bronwyn and Aliyah Hagey

We were so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. You all are in our thoughts and prayers! We will always remember Bill for his fun personality and friendly ways! He was always a "delight' to be around at the Hollaar family reunions! We have many fond memories of him!! Our hearts esp. go out to his Mother, Lois, as we know she was his caregiver throughout his whole life! May you all hold onto the good memories of him and yes, the promise of one day being united in Heaven! With our sympathy and prayers, Jan and Gary Gilchrist and family.
