Obituary for Rose A. D'Amico (Johnson)

Rose A. D'Amico, nee Johnson, age 83, loving mother of Valerie D'Amico and the late Tina Melvan. Cherished grandmother of Sarah (Ryan) Hancock and George (Lauren) Melvan and Budd (fianceƩ Amy) Melvan. Dearest great-grandmother of Mae, Lea, Wyatt, Olive and Judah. Devoted daughter of the late Victoria and Charles Johnson. Dear sister of Victoria Hooks, Alice Nagy and the late Carl Johnson, Irene Rhine, Dorothy Kemp, Jeanette Johnson and Phyllis Bruhn. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Rose was born and raised in the country surrounded by the love of her large family and the beauty of nature. She grew to love gardening and could identify any plant, tree, or weed. At the age of eighteen, Rose moved to the city of Chicago where she fell in love with the city's culture and vibrancy. She was active in her community and enjoyed the Arts. As an artist, Rose enjoyed working with watercolors and studied calligraphy. She married and had two daughters and three grandchildren whom she adored. She enjoyed introducing them to her love of the city's museums, theater and the ballet.

Rose worked many years in the international shipping industry and was a wiz at geography. She enjoyed traveling with her family. No trip was too big or too small as she loved people and hearing their stories. Rose carried her humble beginnings throughout her life. She had a kind, nurturing and pro-active heart and would do anything to help her loved ones.

Rose will be forever remembered and cherished not only for her quick wit and warm sense of humor but also for her compassion, kindness and honesty.
