Obituary for Ronald G. Harley

Ronald G. Harley 1933-2022

Ron was born at Oak Park Hospital (Illinois) to Troy and Mildred Harley. He was preceded in death by his brothers Richard and Robert (Jane). He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Marlene, nee Hartman, and his children Kevin (Nadine) Harley and Kelly (Rick) Langenderfer. Surviving also are his grandchildren Colin Langenderfer (fianceƩ Charlene), Shannon Brodinski (Bobby), and Kyle Langenderfer and Katie and Jake Harley as well as his great-granddaughter Adelyn Rose Brodinski.

Ron was a proud army veteran and taught history in high school as well as college for 63 years, he was president of District 228 Board of Education for 25 years. He also served as treasurer of the Acorn Public Library for 25 years; he was one of a group of founders of the library. The Oak Forest Credit Union was also a group in which he served. He spent many years as an active member of Oak Forest United Methodist Church. He was a lay leader, chairman of the board, and spoke from the pulpit there and at other Methodist churches. Ron's passions included his faith, family, and friends. He loved to travel, garden and especially time spent with those he loved. He loved spending time with his dogs, Webster and Trooper Jac. Fond memories also of other dogs long gone. All admired his sense of humor. He was a history buff, as well.

Ron's family will receive relatives and friends on March 25, 2022 at Faith United Methodist Church, 15101 S. 80th Ave., Orland Park, IL from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a service to celebrate Ron's life to follow at 11:00 a.m. Private interment with military honors will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
