Obituary for Jenny Vrieze (Minnema)

Jenny Minnema Vrieze, age 94, passed away on April 1 after an extended illness.

She was a talented artist and creative weaver whose art work hangs in homes, banks and corporate offices throughout the United States. After her husband’s early death, she built a business around her creative work that sustained her for years. In so doing she followed the example of her mother who owned a haberdashery shop.

Jenny was born in the Netherlands, immigrated first to Canada and then came to the Chicago area when her husband began teaching at Trinity Christian College. She was a long-time resident of Palos Heights, Illinois.

Jenny loved to read, to listen to music and to engage with friends about new ideas.

She is survived by a son Maarten Vrieze (wife, Lieke Van Boven) of Leiden, Netherlands, and a daughter, Agnes Vrieze, of Port Robinson, Ontario, Canada. Her son John Vrieze died in 2009. Jenny is survived also by 7 grandchildren who live in the Netherlands, Sweden, Canada and the United States and by 10 great-grandchildren.
