James R. "Jim" Manning, age 82, beloved husband for 57 years to Ruth, nee Schueler. Loving father of James Francis (late Shelly) Manning, the late Michael T. Manning, Jeanne Marie McCarthy, Daniel J. (Pamela) Manning and his "adopted son" Joseph Brabec. Cherished grandfather of Jennifer (Matt Fiskiewicz) Manning, Jessica (Matt) Layhe, Jack McCarthy, Connor J. Manning, and bonus grandchildren Becca Baker, Samantha Baker and bonus great-grandson Andrew. Preceded in death by his sisters Dolores Nugent, Rosemary Shaffner and Patricia Fink. Dear uncle of John (Margaret) Nugent, Dan (Kathy) Nugent, Michael (Joanne) Nugent, Patricia (Mark) Farrell and Mary Ellen (John) Glazier.

Jim retired from the Chicago Bureau of Streets & Sanitation in 1998 after 37 years of faithful service. He was a proud member of the Illinois National Guard. Jim was a wonderful family man who lived for his kids and grandkids. He loved family parties, was a good neighbor, loyal friend and was always there when you needed him. He was also an animal lover and dog whisperer--affectionately known as "grandpa bones".

Due to the unfortunate circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and for the safety of the family and community, a private visitation and funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2020.

Dear Manning Family,
Your dad was a great guy. He always had a smile and a warm hello every time we saw him. He was quite the comedian as well with his impromptu one liners. His presence will surely be missed. Our love, thoughts, and prayers are with your family during this time.

Dear Manning Family,

We are so very sorry to hear of your loss. Jim / Dad was a good guy that I am proud to say we had 15+ years of memorable times together. Gaining the Trust of a man like truly meaningful and will always create the warm feelings of Gratitude in us. What I remember most about Jim is not only his laugh but his always wanting to laugh. This was a unique quality that he possessed and this will never be forgotten by us.
To the Manning Family - we wish you all Peace and Comfort during these most trying of times. Remember: that Jim/Dad went to be with the Lord knowing you all loved him AND you all knew that he loved you. This is the most awesome and trusting gift one can ever receive....especially during these times. So with this, May your Faith in God bring you Peace and Comfort. Sorry again for your loss.
Take Care, Wayne Casey & Bob Kristof

Dear Danny ~ so sorry for you and your family’s loss ~ As “childhood” memories , I will always remember your dad’s jovial laugh and his impressionable kindness ~ I will always remember your dad as part of our families’ “hot pepper” making days ~ the pranks our fathers played on people on the block and the good times our parents had playing cards in the backyard ~ those days are far gone but not far from memory
May Mr. Manning Rest In Peace 💜 and May Mrs. Manning, you, and your family, find much peace during this difficult time ~ much hugs, prayers and condolences from The Senese’s
