Ian Cameron Lilly, age 73, of Country Club Hills, IL went home to live with God on April 23, 2020. He was the blessed son of William and Eleanora Lilly. He is survived by his sister Lauren (Darrell) Werges, loving wife of 49 years, Laura, three amazing children Margaret (Eric) Jones, Adam (Valerie) Nelson Lilly and Eleanora (David) McNeil and his seven precious grandchildren--Maya, Evan, Addison, Owen, Connor, Zooey, and Oliver as well as many nephews and nieces, cousins and wonderful friends--especially his investing colleagues, airplane pilots and golfing buddies with whom he shared laughter and funny jokes and remembered tunes and singers.

Ian's greatest passion was music. He enjoyed three careers--band director, professional jazz musician and financial advisor.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date when the world is safe again. Then we can hear his favorite singer Frank Sinatra's "Come Fly With Me!" together.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Lilly's passing. He was my Band Director and instructor. Such an inspiration. Always positive and encouraging. I learned to play (somewhat) and truly enjoy playing the trombone from him. My time with Mr. Lilly and life lessons are treasured memories. My prayers to the Lilly family on your loss. Please know there are many people who had the pleasure of having time with Mr. Lilly who are feeling your loss. RIP Ian. Bones Rule!

Mr. Lily is one of my favorite teachers. I am 54 years old and I had Mr. Lily as my band teacher at Orland Jr High. I played the clarinet and was 3rd chair... no musical prodigy, but that’s not why I remembered him. He was my favorite because I never felt less than. He made me feel like I was 1st chair, very encouraging. And on one particular day, I had an accident and was so embarrassed. I was the last to pack up and leave and he saw my distress. Without saying a word, he took off his jacket, wrapped it around my waist, and took me to the nurse. I will never forget that kindness. I am a teacher now. I strive to be like Mr. Lily every day. I’m so sorry for your loss. It is a community loss
