Obituary for Harry J. "Sonny" Hager Jr.

Harry J. "Sonny" Hager, Jr., age 91, passed away January 9th at home with family at his side. Harry grew up in the Roseland community of Chicago. He worshipped at Bethany Reformed Church where his father was minister. He attended Morgan Park Military Academy and Bob Jones University. Harry served on the Chicago Fire Department for 32 years and retired as a Battalion Chief. He was married to his best friend and love of his life, Carol, for 62 years.

Harry and his family traveled extensively in the United States and Europe. One of his pastimes was watching Chicago sports--especially the Cubs and Blackhawks. Harry also enjoyed fishing with his family. He was the Chef at home and gave pointers to his daughters.

In his spare time, in addition to being an avid reader, he was a long time volunteer for the American Hearing Impaired Hockey Association.

Harry is the beloved husband of Carol (Bailey). Loving father of Cheryl and Carolyn (Henry Fiorentini). Cherished Grandpa of Elizabeth, Jack, and Kristen Bainbridge. Step-Grandfather of Alex and Vincent Fiorentini. Dear son of the late Reverend Dr. Harry J. Hager and Jeanette (Vanderwerp) Hager. Brother of Mary Virginia Hager. Preceded in death by siblings Winnifred (Hager) Hostetter and Norman Dean Hager. Uncle to Mary Beth (Jim) Persoon, Marcy (Warren) White, and Rachel (Michael) Smith. Great and great-great uncle to many. Friend to many.

Visitation Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon with a Funeral Service to follow at 12:00 Noon at Colonial Chapel, 15525 S. 73rd Ave. (155th/Wheeler Dr. & Harlem) Orland Park, IL. To uphold safety guidelines, all guests are asked to wear a mask and respect social distancing requirements.
Interment Bronswood Cemetery, Oak Brook, IL.
