Obituary for Dr. Ruperto U. Buscaino MD
Dr. Ruperto Ubando Buscaino, age 78, passed away on May 12, 2020. Beloved husband to Esperanza Alejandrino Buscaino, Raphy and Espie were married for 55 wonderful years. Father to Catherine Alejandrino Buscaino, Cristina Buscaino Castillo (Frank), Ruperto Alejandrino Buscaino Jr. (Maya), and Eileen Buscaino Vodvarka (Rob). Cherished Lolo/Grandfather of Ryan and Kara Maniquis, Evan Conklin, Kal Buscaino, and Alex, Jack and Noah Vodvarka. Preceded in death by his sister, Rose Buscaino Ayson (Crisanto) and his parents Francisco and Alfonsa Buscaino. Dear friend to many.
Raphy was born in Dagupan City, Philippines. He attended college at the University of Santo Thomas and found his calling in medicine. After college, he then graduated from the University of Santo Thomas Medical School. He then worked as a Family Practitioner in his own hometown serving his community. After migrating with his family to the United States in 1969, he pursued his passion as an Anesthesiologist. He completed his residency program at the University of Chicago, and Fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesia at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. As a dedicated physician, he spent a majority of his career proudly helping patients at Holy Cross Hospital for over 30 years. He served his final 7 years at Roseland Community Hospital which he called “home”, continuing to save lives until his very last days before falling sick in April 2020.
Raphy was a devoted husband, father, lolo/grandfather and physician. Although his first love was painting, he continued his artistic passion in gardening. Every spring and summer were filled with roses, daylillies, and tulips. In his spare time, he often challenged himself completing sudoku and crossword puzzles. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends bowling and playing poker. He was a leader in the Filipino community. He touched many lives with his gentleness and warm smile. He will live in our hearts forever.
