Obituary for Donald O. Van Ostenburg PhD

Donald O. Van Ostenburg, PhD, age 92, beloved husband of Carol, nee Dykstra and the late Betty, nee Roskamp (2002). Loving father of Suzanne (Keith) Griffiths and Donald M. (Lupe) Van Ostenburg. Cherished grandfather of Richard James (Brittany) Alber, Jennie Alber, and Shannon Van Ostenburg. Dearest great-grandfather of eight. Dear step-father of Kristen (Scott) Molenhouse and Erin (Dave) Stewart and step-grandfather of Kasie and Lyla. Fond brother of the late Charlene (late Duncan) Baker.

Donald is a 1947 graduate of South High School. He graduated from Junior college in 1949, from Calvin College in 1951, and from MSU in 1956. Donald spent 27 years as a college professor at DePaul University, retiring as head of the Physics Department. Don met Carol Davis at Palos Reformed Church and they quickly discovered they both had a great love for the Brass Tracks Jazz Band at Hackneys. Don could occasionally be found behind the drums. They married in September of 2003. They traveled the world and enjoyed being members of several dance clubs. Don loved Jesus and was passionate about teaching Sunday School classes about the wonder of God and the marriage of God and science in creation.

Visitation Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Christ Community Church, 13400 Bell Road, Lemont, IL from 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service 12:00 Noon. Burial private at Chapel Hill Gardens South, Oak Lawn, IL.
