Obituary for Barbara J. Barnes
Barbara J. Barnes, 68, of Orland Park, died January 12 of COVID-19. Despite being fully vaccinated, chronic asthma contributed to the virus’s devastation. Barb was born March 28, 1953 in Youngstown, Ohio, the eldest child of William C. and Ruth Jones Barnes. She graduated from Girard High School in 1971 and earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois. She taught elementary school for 35 years at Homer Glen School District until retirement in 2013. Vibrant and active, she was an avid traveler, photographer, cyclist, church volunteer, and organizer of family gatherings. Barb was an active member of Church of the Transfiguration (Palos Park), the Joliet Bicycle Club, Lyric Opera, and the Welsh Cambrian Society of Chicago.
She is survived by her father William C. Barnes, sister Judith Barnes (Brian Bernhardt), brothers Phillip Barnes (Janet) and Will Barnes (Jane), nieces Julia Krakauer (Max) and Jessica Barnes, aunt Barbara Jones, and cousins here and in the U.K. She is also survived by her dearest long-time partner Roger Stoub and his children Travis, Brad, Natalie, Gavin, Dayna and their families.
Please join us for a Memorial Service in remembrance of Barb Barnes on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 11:00 am at The Church of The Transfiguration, 12219 S 86th Ave, Palos Park, IL 60464.
