Obituary for Arnelda Khea "Arni" Greenwood

It is with great sadness that the family of Arnelda Khea “Arni” Greenwood, announces her sudden passing, on May 10, 2021, at age 64.

Her free-spirited legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew her. Arni’s friends and co-workers describe her as cheerful, generous, and fun. Always accepting and open minded, she made everyone feel comfortable, secure, and appreciated.

In 1979 she left her home state of Oklahoma for NIU in DeKalb, IL. There she met the love of her life and soulmate, Bryan Fish. The two knew instantly they were destined for eternity; their marriage in 1981 began a 39-year+ adventure together, always incorporating the other as center in their orbit of life.

Giving back was important to Arni. She loved people, animals and causes to help those less fortunate. She was a loyal employee of Advocate Healthcare for over 38 years. Her hobbies included music, movies, the arts, and books. She was an avid sports fan, and the White Sox and Blackhawks held a particularly special place in her heart. Arni enjoyed the simple things in life and reveled in the serenity and tranquility of spending time at home, listening to her music collection or reading a good book. She was a content and grateful individual, with a laugh so contagious it made everyone grin from ear to ear. Well read, sharp and knowledgeable, Arni could always be counted on to contribute to a conversation in a profound and meaningful way. Her mantra included equality, humbleness, peace and understanding. She lived out those values and remains an example for all to live by.

In addition to her devoted husband Bryan Fish, she is survived by her brother Daryl (JoAnn) Greenwood, her mother-in-law Gayle Fish, brother-in-law Glenn (Josephine) Fish, ten nieces and nephews--Jacob (Rhe) Greenwood, Adam (Sarah) Greenwood, Caitlin (Justin) Foglesong, Ryan Fish, Lauren Fish, Kyle Fish, Carter Fish, Lilah Fish, Kate Alshuler, and Anne Alshuler (Shem Stephen). Also, six great-nieces and great-nephews--Liam Greenwood, Josephine Greenwood, Nora Greenwood, Owen Greenwood, Amelia Greenwood, and Sydney Foglesong. Arni was preceded in death by her parents Kennith and Norine (Bailey) Greenwood.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Transfiguration, 12219 S 86th Ave, Palos Park, IL 60464.
