Obituary for Albert M. Sciaky

Albert Mario Sciaky (1929 - 2021) died on June 1st at home in Orland Park, Illinois. He is survived by his daughters Alexandra, (April Campbell, M.D.) Ann Arbor, MI, Dolsa, Juliette de Lannoy (Mike), and Ada Vaughan (Tom Nowicki), daughter-in-law, Julie, and grandchildren, Benjamin, Madeleine de Lannoy (Tijani Youssouf Sylla), Nick de Lannoy (Evie Song) and Zola Nowicki.

Albert was predeceased by his wife, Fritzi and son, David. Albert was the eldest of three sons (brothers Jack, Peter) born to parents Samuel and Linette Sciaky in Paris, France. The family immigrated to the United States in September,1940 to escape persecution by the Nazis and settled in Chicago. Albert earned his Ph.B. degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from the University of Chicago in 1949 and his BSEE degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1955. Albert married Frizti Kurtz on September 7th, 1957 in Chicago. They raised their family in the woodsy southwest suburb of Palos Park. Over his extensive career as an electrical engineer and executive at Sciaky Bros., Inc. he developed and introduced sophisticated precision welding equipment to the aerospace, power generation and automotive industries globally. His innovations included early computer-controlled electron beam fusion and resistance welding equipment and he is named on numerous patents as a result. Upon retirement, he taught manufacturing automation courses at Moraine Valley Community College. Albert’s ability to fix anything mechanical or electrical was legendary. He loved playing Debussy on the piano, eating cucumbers, and Camembert cheese. He was an amazingly innovative, patient, kind, and family-oriented person.

Albert and Fritzi shared a cottage on Lake Michigan with close friends Elizabeth and Ted Conger for fifty years. Summer visits long and short to “The Cottage” created indelible memories for their families and friends. Albert was deeply loved by his family and will be missed.

A private memorial gathering is planned.

Donations in his memory may be made to the United Negro College Fund.
