Elsie was born on December 7, 1923 in Chicago to Edward and Mary Bauman. Elsie was the second oldest of 5 children. As a child, Elsie’s parents became missionaries, returning to their homeland of Yugoslavia. Elsie had a difficult childhood surviving in Yugoslavia during World War II. She suffered the death of her oldest sister, Angeline, at the hands of the Nazi’s. Her family often had to hide when the German soldiers occupied their town. After the war she returned to Chicago as a young woman where she met Reuben Simonec and married him on October 30, 1948. As a devoted homemaker Elsie’s true passion was taking care of her husband and only son, Tim. Her faith in Jesus Christ was also a driving force in her life. Elsie and Reuben opened their home to a weekly Bible study for over 35 years.

She is survived by her son, Tim, who resides with his wife, Janet, in California; and by her younger sister, Bessie, and her younger brother, David, who both also reside in California.
