Creating A Celebration Of Life

Many of the families we serve desire a service that celebrates the life of their loved one. We inform them of the option of a celebration-of-life and we assist them in crafting one that is unique to their loved one and is memorable to those in attendance.

We specialize in helping families hold a celebration-of-life for their loved one. Although it can sometimes be difficult to design an event that honors the life and spirit of a loved one, it is a fulfilling and worthwhile experience.

In her book Remembering Well, Sarah York writes about the way in which her family celebrated the life of her mother. “My mother died in April 1983…she didn’t want a funeral. ‘Get together and have a party,’ she had said when the topic was allowed to come up.” She tells us that she and her family did not honor that request. “We needed the ritual. We needed to say goodbye, but we also needed a ritual that would honor her spirit and would be faithful to her values and beliefs.” Their need of a ritual provides an important lesson: the celebrations-of-life that we orchestrate should be influenced not only by the desire to celebrate the life of a loved one, but also by the emotional and spiritual needs of survivors.

Celebrations of life can take any shape that you desire, but you should take into consideration the emotional needs of attendees. Think of those who will come to the event and what they will probably want or need. After this, add elements that represent the lifestyle and individuality of the departed, perhaps with live music. Celebrations of life are designed to provide upliftment to those in attendance by keeping cherished memories central. To learn more, please call us at 708-532-5400.
