Condolence: My condolences. Mr. Block was my favorite teacher in high school. I was a handful, and he never let me get away with anything. He pushed me to excel. I loved his history class. I think I disappointed him when I failed to take the Advanced Placement test. I didn't know then but I had severe performance anxiety.

Condolence: Mr. Block made a significant impact on me as a student in 1986 and influenced me to become a history teacher myself. His archeological digs inspired me to visit Peru when I was in college. He was a kind and highly effective teacher who helped us understand the nuances of perspective and motivations behind historical events. He truly made the world a better place.

Condolence: Mr. Block was a nice and kind man. Because of his faith in me, I was able eventually to graduate Phi Alpha Theta in History and even publish a book about the school. His class even made the book too. I just hope that I can share his kindness. Sincerely, Eddy Jawor (TPHS 1987)

Condolence: I graduated in '87 and Mr. Block was my history teacher. I still remember when he handed back our first essay test and told us no one had ever taught us to write an essay and he spent the next week teaching us and then retested us. I had 2 articles published and went to the Illinois State History fair with his encouragement. He never just taught history, he taught his students. My career as an educator and writer is due to his him, the lessons he taught and the encouragement he provided. He truly is someone who gave of his gifts and talents. My sympathies to your family.

Condolence: Mr. Block was our teacher for American history during junior year. Looking back, he was an exceptional teacher who I didn't appreciate nearly enough at the time. I remember him as someone who was funny, loved teaching, and chewed blue Trident gum. After graduation ceremony, he sought me out to say that my speech was one of the best commencement addresses he had ever heard. His feedback mattered, and it made my heart soar. Farewell and RIP, Mr. Block. (Lisa Craig Heuer, TPHS class of 1991)
