Cremation Services, IL
At Colonial Chapel Funeral Home & Crematory, we offer the complete cremation service. It is very similar to our complete funeral service except that your loved one will be placed in a cremation or rental casket and will be cremated at the completion of services rather than interred. After the visitation, service or ceremony and the cremation, the ashes can be legally scattered, buried or kept in the home. The cremains are contained in the urn of your choosing.
We also offer the immediate or direct cremation service, which is usually followed by a memorial service at the funeral home, a place of religious worship or some other setting that you select. The body is not there at a memorial service, rather the urn is typically present. We encourage those who choose to have an immediate cremation for their loved one to prepare a time when the family may view the body prior to the process. Viewing the deceased helps the family to acknowledge that the death has happened. If the viewing can be arranged within a few hours after the passing then embalming is not needed. If there is a long delay for the viewing of more than 8-12 hours then we recommend that your loved one be embalmed. Each state has its own laws governing when embalming must be performed. Holding a service, ceremony or gathering is essential to proper healing from the grief associated with the loss of a loved one to death.
